Joseph Smith said:
“a religion that does not require the sacrifice of all things never has
the power sufficient to produce the faith necessary unto life and
salvation.”
I had heard this quote before. Deep. Profound. True.
(I love how it makes my mind wander into thoughts of eternal importance.)
Imagine an individual. A comfortable happy individual. A good, kind, church going, Lord worshiping individual. But imagine their life was so happy and comfortable that they had never been in a position where they were asked to sacrifice or "endure." (A basically impossible scenario I know, but try to set that aside.)
How would you know? How would they know? How would God know?
How would it be known where their faith really stands?
When one is comfortable, and at ease in life, and you aren't asked to give up anything - it's EASY to be good, kind and even give praise to God.
It is in times of testing, fear, pain, sorrow, discouragement, and uncertainty that we prove who we really are.
This testing center we call earth is set up to provide opportunities to show the Lord, we mean what we say.
